"Development of holistic prospecting solutions enabling acquisition of chromites with appropriate physicochemical parameters for production of high-quality alloy additives (CrExplo)"

Project has received funding from the National Centre of Research and Development under Smart Growth Operational Programme 2014-2020 within Sectoral R & D programmes.

The project aim was to develop an innovative, low-cost and ecological method of prospecting for potential chromite deposits, intended for production of high-quality alloy additives. The method includes a holistic approach to standard exploration work, geoinformatics algorithms, as well as conceptual prospecting geophysics methods, along with their large-scale application in deposit prospecting.

Due to its strategic importance, chromium is on the list of critical raw materials of the European Union. Innovative solutions leading to full diagnosis of potential chromite deposits with particular emphasis on podiform type occurring especially in Europe, ensure stable and safe development of European producers of ferroalloys and increase their competitiveness on the global market which will be directly reflected in the development of the European metallurgy sector.

The result of the project is an innovative prospecting method that allows for:

  • the possibility of preparing a full exploration path for a particular type of chromite which will be used to design properly all exploration works for a potential investor,
  • offering a full exploration path for chromites with geological and investor supervision, prepared for exploration works in accordance with the methodology developed in the project.
